367,000 Livestock to Be Sold on the Market

According to pasture capacity assessments, approximately 38.2% of Bayankhongor province’s territory has normal pasture load, while 61.8% exceeds its capacity. For soums (districts) where winter-spring pasture load is significantly exceeded, the Provincial Department of Food and Agriculture has recommended measures such as preparing hay, stockpiling supplementary feed, conducting seasonal migration (otor), and reducing livestock numbers.
At the beginning of the year, the total livestock count was over 4 million, with 246,000 large livestock lost and 714,000 offspring raised. By mid-year, the total livestock reached 4.5 million. Of these, 247,000 animals are designated for food consumption, and 367,000 for market sale, leaving 3.9 million animals for wintering (equivalent to 5.8 million sheep units).
As of today, 24,236 head of livestock from 102 households in 17 soums are grazing in 15 other provinces and in the territory of Ulaanbaatar. Within Bayankhongor itself, 48,512 head of livestock from 123 households in 12 soums are grazing in the territory of 17 other soums.
In the inter-provincial special-use pasture zone, 13,911 head of livestock from 21 households are set to winter. Specifically, 8,346 head from 13 households in Buutsagaan soum and 5,565 head from 8 households in Khureemaral soum are currently grazing. Based on agreements, 13,911 head of livestock from Buutsagaan and Khureemaral soums will be wintered in the designated otor zone.
